What's on the show isn't advice
Episodes, show notes and everything on this site are for general information and entertainment. Nothing here is tax, legal, accounting, investment or financial advice, and none of it creates a professional relationship with you.
Ryan Otto is a Main Street Certified Tax Advisor (MSCTA). He is not a CPA and not an enrolled agent. He is also not your advisor unless you have separately engaged his firm and signed something saying so. Guests speak for themselves about their own situations; their circumstances are almost certainly not yours. Before acting on anything you hear, talk to a professional who knows your actual facts.
We don't vouch for guests
Appearing on the show is not an endorsement of a guest, their company, or anything they sell — and a guest's views are theirs, not the show's. The same goes in reverse: guests don't endorse us by showing up.
Partners
Where an episode carries a partner mention, it's a paid placement and we say so in the episode. We only take partners whose products we're willing to stand behind, but a partnership is still a commercial arrangement and you should treat it as one.
If you record an episode with us
Recording is arranged separately and the specifics are agreed with you at the time, but the shape of it is this:
- You give us permission to record, edit, publish and promote the conversation in audio, video and clip form, on the platforms we distribute to.
- You keep ownership of what you say. We're not buying your words, only the right to publish the episode.
- You can ask for something to be cut, and we'll cut it. Ask before publication and it simply never goes out.
- We edit for clarity, never to change your meaning or manufacture a narrative.
- We're not obliged to publish. Some recordings don't make it out, and that decision stays with us.
Nothing in this section replaces a release you actually sign. Where the two differ, the signed one wins.
Our content
The episodes, artwork, the Unfinished Empires name and mark, and the words on this site belong to us. Quote us, link to us, share a clip, embed an episode — all fine and encouraged. Republishing a whole episode as your own, or using the name or mark in a way that suggests we're involved with something we're not, isn't.
Availability
We'd like the site to be up all the time and it mostly will be, but we don't guarantee it, and we may change or remove anything here without notice.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for losses arising from your use of this site or from acting on anything published here. This doesn't limit anything that can't lawfully be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
Changes
If these change materially, the date at the top changes with them.
